Modern media is changing rapidly. We’ve witnessed several monumental changes in our lifetime....from radio to television...but this latest change in media consumption is bigger than any that’s come before it; the rise of the Internet.

Studies show that television viewership has been steadily decreasing since 2010, where it reached its peak. Fewer and fewer people, especially in the 18 to 34 age group, are watching television, opting instead to use smartphones and the Internet to access media.

As a recent Forbes article puts it, “the smartphone is eating the television.” Increasingly, people consume their news and entertainment via social networks, online videos, and broadcast live streaming rather than simply sitting in front of a TV.

FNN has been on the front end of this cutting edge.  We've been broadcasting on the internet with events since 2011.  In 2013, we launched a 24/7 channel live via the Internet.

In the U.S., advertising on live streaming is still an evolving prospect. It represents huge opportunities for businesses locally, giving them the opportunity to step outside their local market area to build customers and generate sales normally unobtainable for them.  There is no doubt that broadcast live streaming is no longer the future....it's the "now".
a white label video service, which is ideal for networks and corporate clients. DaCast also supports a wide range of video players such as JW Player and Flowplayer, which can be customized to meet your specific needs.

FNN's live streaming platform is built around the Akamai content delivery network (CDN), which is a global network of more than 100,000 servers dedicated to fast, efficient, and scalable media delivery.

These servers are optimized to dynamically cache on-demand content, but also to find the shortest, highest-speed links to the viewer. This ensures that the FNN stream has the latest technology to minimize or eliminate buffering, stuttering, and frames dropping.

One of the major difficulties with live streaming is the range of Internet speeds that viewers may utilize. Some are on slow DSL connections, while others are on lightning-fast fiber.  In the Calhoun County area, Cable One is offering download speeds now near 200mps!

FNN deals with this problem by encoding streams at a variety of bitrates which are delivered dynamically to the viewer based on the quality of their connection at any given moment. This means that wild fluctuations in speed (due to network congestion or other factors) can be accommodated for, always resulting in a watchable stream no matter the device platform.

While traditional television viewing is decreasing, accessing Internet video with smart TV devices like Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Google’s Chromecast, and Roku TV is growing increasingly popular.  FNN is in the process of releasing a new Roku Channel and working towards channels on Apple TV and Google Chromecast.

FNN 24/7 integrates seamlessly with many smart TV devices, allowing viewers to watch our content just like traditional television, but with the added features, convenience, and reduced cost of a broadband Internet connection.  And because all FNN content is produced in 1080p HD, it looks great on smaller smart phone screens as well as large screen TVs.
